What’s in your hands part 2

Hello everyone!

I’m back with Part 2 of “What’s In Your Hands?” In Part One of this short series, I talked about discovering and cultivating our skills and talents to fulfill our purpose in life. If you haven’t read it yet, click on the link and then come back to this post. I’ll wait…because I will be building upon what I shared in the last post. Now…the second revelation I received from trying to understand what God has placed in my hands, is that God has also placed people and opportunities in my life right now.

Until maybe a year or two ago, I lived (mentally) in the future. My future plans always seemed much more exciting than my current reality. And it seemed that way because I was a planner at heart, and because I didn’t take advantage of what was in front of me. Since then, I have tried to live by the motto: “Plan for the future, but live in the present.” This motto helps me to be intentional about my present, but still get excited about the future.

“Plan for the future, but live in the present.”

Last week, many people were surprised to hear about the death of Chadwick Boseman. I remember first seeing him on an episode of Lincoln Heights and then as Jackie Robinson in the movie 42. However, I will forever remember him as King T’Challa (which will probably by my future son’s middle name). While his death was unpredictable to many of us, his family had known of his private battle with colon cancer for the past four years. What amazes me was how Chadwick could film “The Black Panther” movie, care for children at St. Jude’s hospital, and much more while simultaneously undergoing chemo and multiple surgeries. There is no doubt in my mind that he took advantage of every new day that God gave him.

And that’s what I want to do. I have incorrectly associated my purpose here on Earth to a specific act or job. Chadwick’s life reminds me that my purpose is to love and help others through whatever skills/talents/opportunities/platforms God has given me, in each season of life. If I wait for the stars to align to do one, big impactful act, then I’ll miss out on all the little moments that I could have made a difference in the lives of others.

“For God is giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases Him.”

Philippians 2:13

So, somehow through an exercise my career coach assigned to me and the passing of an amazing human being, I learned to not discount the now that I am given. I hope that you won’t discount the now, either. If you’re looking around at the: political corruption, disregard for Black lives, lives being disrupted by COVID-19, and other social ills, don’t feel discouraged, just look at what’s in your hand.

Thanks for reading!

Peace & Blessings,

Britt ♥
